At the bottom of the Yamula reservoir in the Caesarea province of Historical Armenia, fossils of a mammoth that lived 7,5 million years ago were found.
According to an announcement made by the municipality, other 7,5 million-year-old finds and fossils have also been found in the underwater area as a result of works carried out with the support of the municipality.
Ali Etem Keskin, a member of the Obruk Cave research team who arrived in Caesarea to take part in the research, said that he had previously encountered marine fossils underwater. But these were the first fossils of a terrestrial animal found underwater.
