Linguistic Map Of Gottfried Hensel From 1689

Four copper maps authored by Gottfried Hensel were issued in Nuremberg in 1741. These maps clearly show the continents along with phrases in different languages, indicating the languages that were spoken in each area by native peoples.

Gottfried Hensel was a German linguist in the field of comparative linguistics. He has worked as a rector in Hirschberg, Lower Silesia. Hensel is best known for his work “Synopsis Universae Philologiae”.
