Armenian Shirvan, the right attribute of Armenian art

Here is what is called in the trade an antique Tachte Shirvan. If you don’t understand what you are looking at or never bothered exploring Armenian art like most rug scholars or dealers of the 20th C, you will just call it a Shirvan Caucasian rug and attribute it to Azeris or someone else. End of story.

But if you Understand Armenian Medieval art you will immediately recognize the two elements between the rectangles as Armenian Church Incense Arks.

This is an Armenian Shirvan.

This is how Armenian art gets misattributed all the time.
