Endangered Handmade Carpets From Antiquity

Woolen carpets with natural dyes that preserve the millennial traditions of Caesarea and Western Armenia are under the threat of disappearance as they compete with the carpets produced with new technology.

These old carpets have been 100% made with pre-cleaned sheep wool from the Taurus Mountains. Carpet dyes have been obtained exclusively from natural sources. The entire manufacturing process was carried out by hand.

It is noteworthy that these carpets start shining as they age, which increases their material value. The quality of the wool combined with natural dyes allows for unsurpassed carpet quality.

All the antique carpets reflect the emotions and desires of the people, and a carpet made with a machine isn’t a match for one made by hand. Furthermore, the Caesarea carpets preserve a piece from the centuries-old history of Western Armenia.
