This antique Kuba bird rug was woven in the 1st half of the 19th Century, containing multiple Seychour-type design elements.
This rug features two opposite-colored medallions on a purple-brown field with radiating branched birds with striking stripes. Floral meander border with cross rosettes amplifies the field.
Similar cross motifs are found on an 18th C Armenian rug in the Sardarabad Museum. The brownfield has receded due to age oxidation giving an almost 3-D effect to the rug.
