“The Attempt”, A short film

The Attempt, a short film written and directed by Santa Monica College film production student Daniel Despart, screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 23.

The film is set in 1921 post-World War I Berlin and is based on the true story of Soghomon Tehlirian, who is given the mission to assassinate the chief orchestrator of the Armenian Genocide.

The young man realizes that killing another man is not easy and contemplates starting a new life with the woman he loves.

The film stars Ara Woland as Soghomon Tehlirian, Anne Bedian as Mrs. Anne Torosyan, Paul Chepikian as Talaat Pasha, and Mariam Vardanyan as Soghomon Tehlirian’s mother.

The Attempt won Best Student Film at the 2020 Vienna Independent Film Festival.
