When Armenia came under Arab rule, Arab geographers divided Armenia into four regions called First Armenia, Second Armenia, Third Armenia, and Fourth Armenia respectively. This division closely resembles Armenia’s division by the late Romans. The first Armenia, as the Arabs called it, is what we know today.
Old sources describe First Armenia as follows:
“This is the country of Arran, Aran, Caucasian Albania, or Agfan, located in the north of the lower reaches of the Araks River before its meeting with the Kur River and its mouth in the Caspian Sea, that is, in the northeast of the Armenia group, overlooking this sea and its “Bartev” from its cities in Jervan, Ortan, Ashush, and Kinj.
It extended to the east, covering the Shervan region and its cities of Baku, then the Darband region in the north that passed through the port of Darband or Bab al-Bab and Maukan to the south. First Armenia was in the east, while Third Armenia is now almost called “Azerbaijan”.”

أذربيجان الحالية أرض تعود ملكيتها للأرمن بحسب الجغرافيون العرب!
عند وقوع أرمينيا تحت الحكم العربي، قسم الجغرافيون العرب أرمينيا إلى أربع أقاليم سميت”أرمينيا الاولى – أرمينيا الثانية – أرمينيا الثالثة -أرمينيا الرابعة” وهو تقسيم يشبه إلى حد بعيد تقسيم الرومان لها في أواخر عهدهم: فأرمينيا الأولى كما اسماها العرب هي ما نعرفه اليوم باسم “#أذربيجان“.
تم وصف “أرمينيا الأولى” وفق التالي:
وهي بلاد الران أو أران أو البانيا القوقازية أو الأغفان الواقعة شمال المجرى الأدنى لنهر أراكس قبل اجتماعه بنهر كورا ومصبهما في بحر قزوين، أي في الشمال الشرقي لمجموعة #أرمينيا وتطل على هذا البحر وقصبتها “بارتيف” من مدنها بجرفان وورثان واشوش وكينجه “كيروفابات حالياً”. وكانت تمتد شرقاً لتشمل إقليم شروان ومن مدنه باكو، ثم إقليم دربند الواقع شماله الذي قصبته ميناء دربند أو باب الأبواب وموقان الواقع جنوبه. وقد كانت أرمينيا الأولى تحد شرقاً أرمينيا الثالثة وهي حالياً على وجه التقريب ما يسمى بــ”أذربيجان”.
