After the Sovietization of Transcaucasia, the Bolsheviks divided the spheres of influence in the South Caucasus together with the Turkish Kemalists.
Armenia was divided between Turkey and Bolshevik Russia. The Kars and Ardahan regions moved to Turkey while the territories eastward entered the sphere of influence of Russia once again.
After another Armenian-Turkish war, in which Turkey was strongly supported by the Bolsheviks, the Moscow Treaty determining the political situation in the region was signed.

The Armenian side was not invited to Moscow and did not participate in the negotiations. The Bolsheviks created “Soviet Azerbaijan”, which at first renounced territorial claims to Armenia but then came up with new demands.
As a result, the issue of Nakhichevan and Karabakh was resolved in favor of Baku, and Zangezur was retained by Armenia only thanks to Garegin Nzhdeh, who until the last kept it under his military control.
It should be noted that the population of Karabakh was an Armenian-Tatar mix, but more than 90% of the population were still Armenians.
We present a detailed historical film about Yerevan and Armenia. The data on the issue is presented from the 40th minute of the video.
