The inscription on the engraving reads “Erzurum is a city in Armenia.” It is noteworthy that Erzurum is mentioned in the historical atlas of 1710 as the “capital of Armenia”
Interestingly, even stateless Armenia was perceived and recognized by Europeans as a separate region of Armenia, populated by indigenous Armenians.
