On the night of January 19-20, 2014, junior sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan prevented enemy sabotage. At the cost of his own life.
According to the command of the military unit where Armen served, he could retreat but chose not to. Thanks to his selfless actions, at least ten soldiers’ lives were saved.
Armen was the only son and the brother of three sisters in a large family living in the Avan district of Yerevan. He had 4 months left before returning home, where he could again do his favorite thing – paint. Together with Armen, four of his cousins served at the border.
For courage and valor shown in defending the state border of the Republic of Artsakh, junior sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan was awarded the medal “For Courage”.
