Symbol pine cone on ancient bas-reliefs

What does the ‘pine cone’ they all hold in their hand symbolize? Over the last few decades, there have been many theories about what it is.

The most popular one you might find is that the pine cone is a representation of the human pineal gland, fertility, enlightenment, or regeneration.

I believe there is a much deeper meaning to it. Perhaps something to do with human creativity.
