Turkey Attempts To Intimidate The Armenians Of Historical Armenia – Turkish-Azerbaijani Flags On The Walls Of Diyarbakir

Large Turkish-Azerbaijani flags were hung from the historic walls of Diyarbakir (ancient Tigranakert). The goal is to intimidate local Armenians and send a message to all Armenians – whether in Turkey or abroad. The flags were displayed today with the knowledge and permission of local authorities.

At present, Diyarbakir does not officially have a mayor. Mayor’s functions are carried out by the trustees because in March this year, former mayor of Diyarbakir Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, a Kurd by ethnicity and a member of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), was arrested on charges of “membership in an armed terrorist organization.”

One of the goals of this action was to send a signal to all Armenians, as the local authorities are well aware that Diyarbakir and its surroundings are Armenian-populated.

The Armenian from Diyarbakir who had taken the photos for obvious reasons asked not to disclose his name.
