Poghos Bek-Pirumyan – Armenian Heroes

Poghos Bek-Pirumyanwasa military leader, colonel of the Russian army, and one of the commanders of the battle of Sardarapat.

At the beginning of WWI, Bek-Pirumyan was appointed the commander of the Lutsk-Mstislavsky regiment. At the end of 1916, he was transferred to the Caucasus Front as the commander of the Armenian 5th Infantry Regiment.

Poghos Bek-Pirumyan took part in the battles for Van and Mush. In 1916-1917, he was a front commander in Daralagyaz – Nor Bayazet. He also participated in the battle of Sardarapat as the commander of the 5th (Karabakh) suicide regiment, playing an important role in the defeat of the Turkish army.

Unable to accept the violence of the Bolshevik authorities, Poghos Bek-Pirumyan committed suicide in 1921 in Yerevan.
