A vegetable-fruit called shelengo grows only in Urfa, Historical Armenia. This unique fruit in appearance resembles a tiny watermelon. On the inside, it’s like a muskmelon, while the taste resembles a cucumber.
This year, the shelengo crop ripened prematurely. Shelengo is harvested at temperatures above 45 degrees.
The vegetable growing in Urfa has been widely used in Armenia since times immemorial. Unripe vegetables have been used in the treatment of skin rashes. Shelengo also reduces the percentage of sugar in the blood and purifies the blood of toxins.
This very capricious vegetable should be consumed immediately after harvesting because it very quickly loses its taste.
