Ancient Artifacts Found In Baberd Fortress

The first stage of renovation and archaeological excavations that began 3 years ago in the Baberd (Bayburt) fortress, the third largest fortress in Historical Armenia, is complete. During the excavations, many historical objects and artifacts were unearthed.

The Baberd Fortress is located at the most important crossroads of the historic Silk Road and is the cradle of civilization.

Among the artifacts found in the fortress are two basins, a plan of a church dating to the 11th century, pottery, arrows, pipes, and one residential building.

The 30 meters tall fortress walls are quite well preserved. It is believed that the fortress was built in 800 BC.
