Ancient Step Pyramid Discovered in Armenia

For several years now, the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia has been conducting a number of archaeological excavations in the villages of the Ararat Valley.

This year, investigations led the archaeologists to an unusual structure which was built in the 3th-2th millennia BC. Interestingly, the structure in its form strongly resembles the pyramids located in Egypt and Mexico.

The pyramid in Armenia lies in 44 km from Mount Ararat.

It should be recalled that in early studies of archaeological excavations in the vicinity of Yerevan and Masis, ancient monuments dating from the Neolithic period have been discovered. As the director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography Pavel Avetisyan noted, part of the discovered monuments (round clay structures, tools made of bones, and stones) was found in a destroyed state.
