Village of Ushi – Armenia

Lately, archaeological groups from all around the globe have been working in Armenia. Although Polish, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, and many other research groups over the years have carried out a plethora of archaeological excavations, there still is a large number of uninvestigated corners.

One of those places is the village of Ushi in Aragatsotn Province, Armenia. This village features multiple cultural layers, some of which date back all the way to the Iron Age. Here, you could also find newer structures such as the 7th-13th-century Surb Sargis Monastery. Right beneath the chapel of the monastery is a grave with the remains of a priest. The only standing structure in Ushi is a 10th-century chapel.

The hill adjacent to the Surb Sargis Monastery houses the ruins of an Iron Age fortress.
