April 1 in the History of Armenia – Liberation of Artsakh in 1920

On April 1, 1920, the Armenian armed forces under the command of Garegin Nzhdeh defeated Nuri Pasha’s troops in the Zabugh gorge and entered Artsakh.

On April 15, 1920, shortly after the arrival of Dro, entire Artsakh was liberated. Nzhdeh with his Kapan military unit was at the time stationed in the Dizak (Hadrut) area.

On April 25, 1920, in the village of Taghavard in Varanda, the 9th Congress of Armenians of Artsakh proclaimed Artsakh as an integral part of Armenia.
