“The people of Nagorno-Karabakh have proven that they deserve the right to self-determination and independence and that they can rule the country,” said Donald Wilson Bush in an interview with the correspondent of NEWS.am.
Donald Wilson Bush is the great-grandson of the 28th President of the US Woodrow Wilson and chairman of the Woodrow Wilson Heritage Foundation.
He continued that there is historical legitimacy that allows this nation to be represented in the UN. “But we need to reach consensus on this issue with dialogue. Now, other major nations do not offer opportunities for this dialogue,” said Donald Wilson Bush.
Touching upon the question of whether he is afraid to be on the “blacklist” of the Azerbaijani leadership due to his visit to Nagorno-Karabakh, the great-grandson of Woodrow Wilson emphasized:
“No, because I do not like people who are trying to dominate others. I believe in the equal rights of nations. A dialogue between nations is needed. We must enter a new era that will proceed according to the Westphalian nation-state system. This will be beneficial for some nations, but not for others.”
Nagorno-Karabakh, according to Donald Wilson Bush, is an opportunity to initiate a new international system that small nations can take advantage of.
“I saw that the government in Nagorno-Karabakh is fully and normally functioning, and its president is being elected for the fourth time. I also met the local spiritual leader Pargev. I realized that Nagorno-Karabakh has more ancient history than the city in which I was born and raised, Virginia,” added Donald Wilson Bush.
