An ancient Hittite village in southeastern Turkey is under the threat of flooding due to the construction of a lagoon nearby. Dated back to the 13th century BC, this village is considered the oldest sculptural workshop in the world.
The site of the village is also called the Yesemek open museum.
The head of the Department of Archaeology at Gaziantep University and Professor Atilla Engin noted that this place provides valuable information about the fall of the Hittite civilization.
“We realized that this is the city where construction once came to a halt. This is a story about the fall of the Hittite civilization,” said Engin.
