The Liberation Of Karvachar In 1993

On March 27, 1993, Armenian troops launched a liberation operation in Karvachar. On April 1, Karvachar was liberated thanks to freedom fighters Armenak Abrahamyan, Hovsep Hovsepyan, Volodya Avetisyan, Sarkis Karapetyan, Misha Tadevosyan, Joseph Nersesyan, Vigen Abrahamyan, and others. On April 2, Armenian forces advanced further and three days later settled in the Omar Pass.

The operation to liberate Karvachar commenced on March 31 at midnight. On April 1, after a 25-kilometer hike, Armenian troops arrived in the center of Karvachar. Two combat positions were captured – the first at 07:00 a.m. and the second at 10:30 a.m.

The liberation of Karvachar was paramount for the security of the northern and northeastern borders of Armenia and Artsakh. Karvachar was an important strategic element for the Armenian side, backing up the rear of the Martakert district and entire Artsakh.

In 2013, Levon Minasyan published the book “Karvachar – Our Duty of Honor”, detailing the liberation of Karvachar.
