Until 1946, the kings of Italy also held the title of the King of Armenia. The title of King of Armenia was read out during ceremonial events and ceremonies.
The kings of Italy are still contenders for the throne of Armenia. In spite of Armenia’s loss of statehood, the title “King of Armenia” did not cease to exist. Instead, it was transferred to the Cypriot branch of the Lusignans. Perhaps the reason for this was that Levon VI (reigned in 1374-1375), the last king of Armenia, was from the Lusignan dynasty.
After the fall of Cyprus, the title moved to Europe and ended up being legally attached to the House of Savoy. Savoy is the dynasty under which Italy reunited and became a single kingdom.
