The royal dynasty of the Kingdom of Van (Urartu) has also used silk that had been imported from China. Armenians later would learn to grow silkworms and develop their own silk production techniques.
The history of the Armenian collection of women’s attire traces all the way back to the era of the Kingdom of Van, where dresses have been mostly knitted with white silk embroidered with golden threads. An image of such a dress was portrayed on a medallion unearthed by archaeologists near Toprakkale in the vicinity of Lake Van.
