The Armenian Surb Khach Monastery is the very first stone building in Rostov-on-Don.
The monastery is surrounded by a beautiful, flowering park with gorgeous ponds that are frequently crowned by ducks. This park is also home to a spring with a swimming pool and crystal clear water.
The monastery was established in 1792. Writer, philosopher, and public figure Michael Lazarevich Nalbandyan is buried in the complex. At different times, Michael Nalbandian, prose writer Rafael Patkanyan, artist Martiros Saryan, architect Alexander Tamanyan, and Catholicos of All Armenians Gevorg VI have been baptized here as well.
