Armenian Language Among the Languages of the Universe – Voyager Golden Records

In the framework of the Voyager program, two unmanned space probes, Voyager-1 and Voyager 2, were launched. Of most interest for us today is the Voyager Golden Record, which was included aboard the both Voyager probes. The records contain greetings in 55 different languages, the music of different cultures, a number of sounds of nature of Earth, and a collection of 116 images.

The Voyager Golden Records are intended for any form of intelligent life, as well as humans of future, if they can find them. After the probes had completed their primary mission decades ago, they have been traveling towards the edge of Solar System.

Among the greetings is the hello of Armenian Araxy Terzian

“To all those existing in the Universe, greetings”. This line reminds of a poem written by Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents.

Here are the languages included in the records:

Akkadian English Italian Persian Spanish
Ancient Greek French Japanese Polish Sumerian
Amoy Ganda Kannada Portuguese Swedish
Arabic German Korean Punjabi Telugu
Aramaic Gujarati Latin Quechua Thai
Armenian Hebrew Mandarin Rajasthani Turkish
Bengali Hindi Marathi Romanian Ukrainian
Burmese Hittite Nepali Russian Urdu
Cantonese Hungarian Nguni Serbian Vietnamese
Czech Ila(Zambia) Nyanja Sinhalese Welsh
Dutch Indonesian Oriya Sotho Wu

Besides, below is an excerpt of US President Jimmy Carter’s official statement placed on the record:

We cast this message into the cosmos … Of the 200 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy, some – perhaps many – may have inhabited planets and space faring civilizations. If one such civilization intercepts Voyager and can understand these recorded contents, here is our message: This is a present from a small distant world, a token of our sounds, our science, our images, our music, our thoughts, and our feelings. We are attempting to survive our time so we may live into yours. We hope some day, having solved the problems we face, to join a community of galactic civilizations. This record represents our hope and our determination and our goodwill in a vast and awesome universe.
