Gladys Berejiklian – Premier of New South Wales, Australia

Gladys Berejiklian, an Australian politician of Armenian descent, won the elections of the Premier of the state held in the state of New South Wales in Australia. Thus, she became the first elected female Premier in the state.

Gladys Berejiklian has held the position of the Premier in New South Wales since 2017. At that time, the Liberal Party leader Mike Baird resigned, and the party members unanimously elected Gladys Berejiklian as the new party leader and state leader.

“I am incredibly proud of the place where we live. And the most important thing for me is that no matter what your origin is, where you live in, and in what conditions, everyone has the opportunity to be the best in this state,” said Gladys Berejiklian to her supporters after the victory.

Gladys Berejiklian interestingly is fluent in Armenian and maintains close ties with the Armenian community of Australia. The state of New South Wales is the largest state of Australia, with its capital being Sydney, which is the largest city of Australia.
