“The Armenian Genocide on the front pages of world press” – Book-Catalogue About the Atrocities of the Turks

The Russian-English version of “The Armenian Genocide on the front pages of world press” was recently published in Yerevan, composed by the director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hayk Demoyan. The book had already been published in Armenian and English a little while ago, and its first addressees were the president, prime minister, and minister of foreign relations of Turkey. A French edition of the book is also planned.

“The Armenian Genocide on the front pages of world press” is actually a catalogue of publications of world press from the 19th-20th centuries, including engravings, images, caricatures, as well as photo material. This unique collection earnestly shows the reality of the Turkish crimes against humanity and civilization. The book is comprised of the materials of the British, French, American, Italian, Russian, Austrian, Czech, German, and Norwegian press.

The mentioned sources covered the large-scale Hamidian Massacres of 1894 – 1896, the 1909 Adana massacre, the Armenian Genocide of 1915 – 1923, as well as their aftermath, including the distress of Armenian refugees, gathering of orphans, and the fate of the Armenian children and women abducted by the Turks.

The primary sources of information for this work became not only the witness accounts of those who had survived the genocide but also statements of diplomats, missionaries, doctors, and other foreign citizens who had become witnesses of the horrible crimes committed against the Armenians and other Christians of the Ottoman Empire.

All this material attests that the worldwide community has been well-informed about the events of the Genocide as they unfolded. And even though mass coverage hasn’t been able to prevent those tragic events, they have aided the development of a large-scale humanitarian movement and fund-raising in support of Armenian refugees.
