The La Armenia Park In The Capital Of Ecuador

The authorities of the Ecuadorian capital Quito have expanded the city park area. Since 1954, the La Armenia Park has been located in Quito. In the park used to be the villa of Ecuadorian General and hero of the Ecuadorian-Peruvian War of 1941 Maurinho Jorge Derlugian.

After his passing, his manor, as the general himself had bequeathed, was transferred to the city hall of Quito which turned the property into a park. And recently, over half a century later, the Quito City Hall decided to connect the city’s forest park with La Armenia Park.

This makes the 72-hectare La Armenia the largest park in the Latin American world. For some perspective, the Vatican City occupies an area of 44 hectares.
