The Charles Aznavour Square In The French Commune Of Chaville

On June 21, 2019, the opening ceremony of a square named in honor of world-famous French chansonnier of Armenian descent Charles Aznavour was held in the commune of Chaville in France.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Armenia to France Hasmik Tolmajyan, the mayor of Chaville Jean-Jacques Guillet, as well as parliamentarian from the department of Hauts-de-Seine Jacques Maire. The choir of Chaville performed works by Charles Aznavour at the event, and the national anthems of Armenia and France were played as well.

In his speech, Ambassador Tolmajyan thanked the commune of Chaville for the initiative to perpetuate the memory of the great Armenian and the great Frenchman, which is also a symbolic tribute to the Armenian-French friendship.

She emphasized the invaluable role that Aznavour – who called himself 100 percent Armenian and 100 percent French – has played in creating a bridge between the two peoples and two homelands.
