In the 15th-13th centuries BC, Armenia maintained extensive military, diplomatic, economic and cultural relations with the Hittite state.

Supiluliuma I (c. 1397-1348 BC), in order to provide a reliable rear in the wars against Mitanni, signed a treaty with Hukkana (Հուկկանա/ Խուկկանա- Khukkana), the ruler of Hayasa, having married his sister.

Perhaps it was this gift that was sent as a sign of kinship, especially given the reports about the discovery of traces of grapes in Areni-1 in this region.
