AnalitikaUA.net reports that events dedicated to the 228th anniversary of the Day of the Armenian Icon of Mother of Jesus have recently started in Ukraine.
On June 22, prominent representatives of the Armenian community in Ukraine met in Kiev at the initiative of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine and the civil organization Armenians of Ukraine. At the meeting, the representatives discussed the role of the community in current Ukraine, as well as touched upon prospective projects.
The event attended by scientists, political scientists, journalists, musicians, clergy, and public figures was timed to the 228th anniversary of the proclamation of the Day of the Armenian Icon of Mother of Jesus.
The participants of the meeting approved the events held and planned by the Union of Armenians of Ukraine. Joint steps were discussed and planned in order to popularize the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Armenians of Ukraine.
The Armenian Icon of Mother of Jesus is one of the most revered relics of the spiritual heritage of the Armenians of Ukraine. On June 27, 1791, the icon and the reconstructed Church of St. Nicholas in Kamianets-Podilsky were again solemnly consecrated, and Archbishop Yakov Tumanovich ordered to celebrate this day – June 27 – as a holiday.
It is known that the Armenian Icon of Mother of Jesus was worshiped by the members of all three Christian communities of the city of Kamianets-Podilsky – Armenians, Ukrainians, and Poles. In 2011, Ukrainian scientists proposed to proclaim June 27 as the Day of the Armenian-Ukrainian Friendship.
Every year, on this day, in different regions of Ukraine, the Armenian diaspora holds thematic events. This year, the celebrations will end on June 28 in Kamianets-Podilsky, where pilgrims from various areas of Ukraine will gather together according to tradition.
The Union of Armenians of Ukraine under the leadership of Vilen Shatvoryan has become the only all-Ukrainian organization that unites all Armenian organizations operating in the country. The Union of Armenians of Ukraine pays special attention to the spheres of science, education, culture, and sports.
