Ancient Tricolor of Armenia From the Book of Karl Alardi

Ancient Tricolor of Armenia

One of the oldest copies of the Armenian tricolor is preserved in the 1705 book of Karl Alardi.

Israel Ori (1658-1711), a prominent figure of the Armenian National Liberation Movement of the 18th century, noted that this is the flag of the last Armenian state that had collapsed in 1375.

The crossed swords symbolize that the Armenian statehood can only be recreated with struggle. Eleven eight-pointed stars were added under Israel Ori, which also are symbols of Armenian statehood.
