Today, the name Kamakatar translates from Armenian as “wish-fulfilling”. Originally, the name has been a little different.
According to an ancient legend, a beauty named Katar fell seriously ill. No doctor could cure the beauty of the rare disease. The girl asked her father to build a chapel and call it Katar in her honor. After that, the disease was gone forever.
The chapel’s name over time transformed into Kamakatar. This place has become a pilgrimage location for many believers. Now, the chapel is located in the city of Vanadzor, Lori Province.
