The world-famous artist, the main representative of the American school of abstract art Arshile Gorky lived in the center of Yerevan during the most difficult period in the history of Armenia – in 1916-1919. Today, this area is called the dead end of Abovyan Street.
Famous journalist and public figure Ado Adoyan was the artist’s cousin. The two spent their childhood together.
Arshile Gorky’s paintings are showcased in the most famous exhibition halls around the world. Today, there is only one drawing in Armenia, but Gorky bequeathed a large number of paintings to Armenia that will be soon brought to the country and exhibited in Etchmiadzin.
