According to a legend, Gregory the Illuminator buried the relics of John the Baptist under the chapel of the monastery.

Here are located the graves of many princes and military chiefs of the Mamikonyan family, including Musheg Mamikonyan, Gayl Vahan, Smbat Mamikonyan, and others.

In the 20s of the last century, the monastery was blown up by Turks, and only its ruins remain now. The Khachkars were smashed and used as a building material by Kurds settled in Mush.
