The former pro tem mayor of the California city of Montebello Jack Hadjinian is the grandson of a survivor of the Armenian Genocide. No wonder that the centenary of the Armenian Genocide in 2015 was important for the first mayor – albeit pro tem – of Armenian origin. Jack Hadjinian told about this in an interview to EGP.
EGP reported that Hadjinian entered history as the first American Armenian to become the mayor of Montebello after being elected by other members of the council in November.
“This is a special feeling, I am proud that I am Armenian, but I represent everyone,” said the new mayor, adding that he would focus on developing the economy and ensuring safety and cleanliness in the city while maintaining city services.
Jack Hadjinian officially took office as mayor of the American city of Montebello on November 25, 2015, becoming the first American of Armenian descent in this position.
