Egil Castle was built during the period of the Assyrian Empire in 5000 BC. overlooking the Tigris River.
The four tunnels that can still be seen today were constructed by carving the rocks to reach safe places in an emergency.
The tombs of Assyrian kings have also survived the test of ages.
