Turkish media reports that the Armenian Surb Astvatsatsin church of Germush in the Khalili district of the city of Urfa (Edessa), Historical Armenia, is in danger of destruction.
According to the media, this monastery located about 10 km from Urfa and supposedly built in the 19th century has turned into ruins due to the indifference of the authorities. Another spiritual building next to the Armenian church has completely disappeared, while the Germush church is now on the verge of collapse.
Although a project to restore the church was approved last year, only electric poles have been installed around the church so far. The source also notes that the church is regularly exposed to devastation by treasure hunters and thieves and is deteriorating day by day.
