A Letter From The US Secretary Of State On The Recognition Of Armenian Independence – 1920

We present to your attention a letter by the US Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby regarding the recognition of Armenia’s independence in April 1920. Nearly exactly 100 years ago, on April 23, 1920, the US government officially recognized the independence of the Republic of Armenia.

In connection with this important event for our country, US Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby sent an official letter to the representative of the Republic of Armenia in Washington Garegin Pastrmachyan. The contents of the letter can be seen in the photo below.

Colby’s original letter is presented in the work “Arbitral Award of the President of the United States of America Woodrow Wilson: Full Report of the Committee Upon the Arbitration of the Boundary Between Turkey and Armenia, Washington, Nov. 22, 1920”.
