Khrkha – Cilician outerwear

At the exhibition titled: “Episodes of Identity – Taraz”, you can see a sample of outerwear – Khrkha, which was worn in the Armenian kingdom – Kiikia, presented in the photograph below.

The dress is made of brown silk with pink lining.

The edges, collar, sleeves, hem are embroidered with silvered silk threads.

The date 1465 is embroidered on the back of the collar.

The main message is embroidered inside the painted circles, which is repeated on the sleeves and back.

The message is instructive in nature and reads: “Memento Mori and do not sin forever”
