Yerevan Blue Mosque To Be Included in the UNESCO World Heritage List

The Blue Mosque located on Masthots Avenue in Yerevan is to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, as reported by the deputy chairman of the Organization of Cultural Heritage of Iran Masoud Alavian Sadr in an interview with the Iranian info agency “FARS.”

He noted that at the meeting with the Minister of Culture of Armenia Hasmik Poghosyan in Tehran, an agreement was reached to take measures to include the Iranian Blue Mosque in Yerevan in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites after it is repaired and brought to a complete form.

Speaking about the Armenian cultural monuments located in Iran, the deputy chairman stressed: “The Armenian church of Karakilisa in the Iranian province of West Atrpatakan along with 9 historical and cultural monuments of Iran is already included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Another Armenian church, Surb Mariam, is located in West Atrpatakan, in the city of Maku. Among other remarkable monastic complexes in the territory of Iran is the Armenian Church of St. Stepanos (10-12th century), which is located on the banks of the Araks River in East Atrpatakan, in the city of Julfa.”
